Meet Jacqueline Bush!

Everyone meet Jacqueline! Jacqueline and I met almost a decade ago when we both were taking our 200-hour yoga certification through Studio Surya in Venice. I am so grateful that our paths crossed and over the years she has become a dear friend. We both love going deep and I cherish our conversations and long walks through the canals, beaches and streets of Venice. She is a very talented hair stylist (among other things) and was the first person to cut my daughter’s hair! She is also the only person who cuts my hair (when I cut it and let me tell you I am due!!) here in Los Angeles. (I have cheated on her twice for emergency cuts in New York!!) Jacqueline is a woman who walks her talk. She has great insight when it comes to inner and outer beauty and shares some great wisdom gems below! (I have already purchased the hair products she recommends!) Read on!

Introduce yourself! Share a little bit about who you are.

I’m Jacqueline, a hair stylist, make-up artist, and am finishing my master’s degree in clinical psychology. I’ve started seeing clients in a therapist capacity, and it’s been really gratifying to give back & put to practice what I’ve spent a long time learning, as I’ve been in my own inner journey for the past 12 years. On the side, I’ve started coaching, which uses a lot of the psychology education and training I’ve learned in school, mixed with with some other practices. I’m a lover of beauty, both inside and out, and past clients include Gwyneth Paltrow, Faith Hill, Mark Ruffalo and Daniel Radcliffe. I’ve been published in Elle, Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, & Glamour.

Please share a little about your beauty rituals. What are three products you are currently using everyday? Is there anything you never leave the house without?!

I’m religious about my skincare routine. I spend a small fortune on products. I use a line called Biologique Recherche. Everyday I use their P50, the elastine serum for fine lines, and the serum matriciel for lifting and plumping. I apply a liberal amount of product using either facial massage or the nuface which lifts the skin. I can absolutely tell a difference in the firmness of my skin by practicing this. I try to do my routine twice a day, but sometimes I skimp during the day; but if I do I still spray on a vitamin C water and a mask or a finsihjng serum to give myself a little extra help.

I put cocoa butter on my lashes every night.

I’d never ever ever leave the house without moisturizer and lip balm!!! I truly don’t understand people who can. I feel like a prune if I don’t.

Beauty: I moved over to a toxic free makeup routine, with the exception of mascara. I couldn’t find one that didn’t run; I love Kevyn Aucoin’s mascara, as it lengthens your lashes and I use a little cocoa butter on my lashes beforehand to protect them. I also love the RMS concealer, Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm in black dahlia, and a smaller line called Laugh Kiss Care for the most beautiful lip glosses. My favorite is Night Orchid. For cheeks, I like Korres and eyes I like beauty counter’s eye palettes.

Hair: I use Harklinniken’s line, which is so clean you could eat it. They say you should wash daily or almost daily with their line, and I love doing that. I also use their growth serum nightly and I look like I have the hair of my youth! I also love their daily leave in and their styling gel (a little goes a long way)

The other thing that I’m really into is dyeing my eyebrows. As we age, the pigment fades in them, especially around the arches and ends. Every few weeks I use a vegetable dye because it fades fast;it is probably the quickest thing you can do to takes years off your face, and it makes them look thicker because it dyes all the blond hairs we can’t normally see

Beauty begins within is a saying I’m sure most of us have heard many times. How do you put this into practice? How are you nourishing your inner beauty?

I do a lot of inner work on shedding old traumas, processing current situations & emotions. When I do this regularly, I’ve had people tell me I look different.

Also, I’m doing daily affirmations on the mirror. The key is to wait for the feeling after the affirmation! Otherwise your body doesn’t really take it in.

I like to talk with my body too-I believe in its intuitive wisdom, and especially as women our power lies in our intuition, yet many of us were taught to ignore that in favor of pleasing others or just living by the patriarchal norms, which is about achievement and routine.

Please share one go-to practice you use to transform your energy and raise your vibe!

I’m really into the bilateral tapping used in EMDR. It calms my nervous system immediately! I’ve used it with clients too, and they say it’s helped them more than meditation and breathing techniques.

Please share your daily self-love practices.

I’m doing a lot right now, but I’ve seen a huge difference during covid-when I utilize these I feel good, happy, & peaceful, which is saying a lot during such trying times!

Daily meditation,

Affirmations in the mirror. I say each one and allow it to resonate with feeling in my body before moving on to the next one.

I practice “the work” by Byron Katie, which helps clear old faulty beliefs and connect more deeply to myself

I’m doing a workbook on love right now as well. It has daily journaling exercises that I’m enjoying

I try to converse with my body and ask it what it needs.

Breath work

Right now I’m doing a 30 day herbal journey with an herbalist named Mary DeLorenzo Woods. We started by me discussing what was going on with me physically and emotionally. She Intuited a few different herbs for me to take and every 7 days she send me a ritual. I find it very grounding, and I’ve actually cleared physical symptoms by doing this before!

Exercise: Pilates. It took me a long time to understand how much I needed to protect my body, and doing low cardio has helped calm my nervous system

Lots of vitamins! I feel better when I take them

Intuitive eating

Now that it’s cold: Baths with coconut oil, essential oils, candles, Epsom salt, and magnesium flakes...my happy place

Also, I gave up coffee. For me, it gave me cysts in breasts and on my ovaries as well as taxes my adrenals too much. I feel better without it and have become a tea junkie-I’m a believer in the power of herbs!

I really believe we are all here to learn and grow. Learning new things keeps me inspired! What is one thing you are working on or learning right now?

How to love myself more deeply & sit with and have compassion for my uncomfortable feelings.

What is one wisdom gem or favorite quote you would like to share.
